چکیده

hen the drinking water industry began to utilize membrane filtration (microfiltration and ultrafiltration), common water sources included high-quality, low-turbidity lakes that required minimal treatment. Membrane filtration was able to provide the necessary treatment for turbidity removal without the need to integrate other treatment processes. The success of membrane filtration in this niche prompted the spread of the technology to sources that require more extensive treatment. The first full-scale treatment plant in North America utilizing coagulation pretreatment for membrane filtration began operating in late 1998 (Best et al, 2000), and coagulation pretreatment for membrane filtration is now becoming more common. Unfortunately, the interactions between coagulants, various constituents of natural waters, and membrane materials are complex, and the effect of coagulaW

Effects of super-powdered activated carbon pretreatment on coagulation and trans-membrane pressure buildup during microfiltration.

As a pretreatment for membrane microfiltration (MF), the use of powdered activated carbon (PAC) with a particle size much smaller than that of conventional PAC (super-powdered PAC, or S-PAC) has been proposed to enhance the removal of dissolved substances. In this paper, another advantage of S-PAC as a pretreatment for MF is described: the use of S-PAC attenuates trans-membrane pressure increas...

Development of Membrane Bioreactor to Membrane Electro-bioreactor for Advanced Treatment of Wastewater

Limited available water resources have rendered wastewater reuse an important issue to specialists in most developed countries, today. The current study works on membrane filtration for treatment of industrial wastewater. By comparing the two methods of membrane bioreactor (MBR) and hybrid membrane electro bioreactor (MEBR) processes, it finds that earlier fouling in the membrane occurs in the ...

Fouling mechanisms during protein microfiltration: The effects of protein structure and filtration pressure on polypropylene microporous membrane performance

A polypropylene microporous membrane (PPMM) was fabricated by thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method. The effects of protein size and structure as well as filtration pressure on the membrane performance and fouling mechanisms were investigated using two different proteins, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and collagen, in dead-end filtration setup. Obtained results showed that, for each pro...
